Tarat lives in a Mumbai chawl, makes a living as a hustler for a local politician and comes alive only when he plays banjo with his band at Ganpati processions and street celebrations. Christina, a New York DJ, hears a recording of the group and travels to India to find them for a music festival entry. Their meeting brings Tarat a chance at respect and a different life, but also threatens the local powers who profit from the slum. Banjo was the first Hindi film of Ravi Jadhav, the Marathi director of Natarang and Balak-Palak, and celebrates the Maharashtrian street-band tradition. The songs were composed by Vishal-Shekhar.
