A group of friends from a small town have vowed since childhood that no woman will come between them, and that they will all stay single together. When one of them moves to Chennai and falls in love, he has to keep it secret from the gang, who follow him to the city and do everything they can to wreck the romance. Kappal ('ship') is a youthful comedy about friendship and first love, the debut of director Karthik G. Krish. It was presented by director Shankar, who spotted the film and gave it his backing, and it was the first Tamil film of Punjabi star Sonam Bajwa.
