Papa Kehte Hain is a 1996 romantic drama directed by Mahesh Bhatt, with Jugal Hansraj, the former child star of Masoom, in the lead, Mayuri Kango as the heroine and Anupam Kher in the central role of the father. The story moves between a young woman's bond with her father and her own feelings, and the young man who loves her has to find his place between them. The film was not a big hit, but its music by Rajesh Roshan, with lyrics by Javed Akhtar, became much bigger than the film: the song Ghar Se Nikalte Hi, sung by Udit Narayan, is still one of the best-loved love songs of the 1990s, and gave the film its lasting name. A soft, sentimental watch for fans of 90s Hindi film music.
