Swarg (1990)

Krishna, a simple village boy, is taken in by Sahab, a wealthy, generous businessman who treats him like family. When Sahab's fortunes collapse through the greed and betrayal of his own relatives, and the people he helped turn their backs on him, Krishna is thrown out too. Determined to repay his master, he goes to Bombay, struggles, and rises through the film industry, all with the aim of restoring Sahab to the "heaven" he lost. Swarg is one of David Dhawan's early films and one of his most emotional, made before he became known for comedies with Govinda. Rajesh Khanna, in a role that drew on his own fall from superstardom, gives a moving performance, and Govinda shows the warmth that would make him a star of the 1990s.
