Amir scrapes a living on the streets of Mumbai, running errands for drug dealers and dreaming of easy money. His older sister Tara, who raised him, works at a dhobi ghat. When Tara injures a man who tries to assault her, she is jailed, and her fate depends on whether the man, now in hospital, lives. Amir sets out to keep him alive, and in the process becomes responsible for the man's mother and young daughters, who arrive in the city with no one else to turn to. Iranian master Majid Majidi, known for Children of Heaven, made this as his first Indian film, shooting in the city's laundries, slums and markets. It was Ishaan Khatter's first lead role, with music by A. R. Rahman, and it premiered at the London Film Festival in 2017.
