Deva starts out in Visakhapatnam selling cinema tickets on the black market with his friends. When the state bans alcohol in the 1990s, he spots an opportunity, begins smuggling liquor and grows into a powerful bootlegger, making dangerous enemies among politicians and rivals. The film moves between that rise and Deva's present life in Spain, where he lives quietly until old threats resurface. Directed by Sudheer Varma, Ranarangam ("Battlefield") is a stylish gangster drama with a split timeline, with Kalyani Priyadarshan as the young love of Deva's past and Kajal Aggarwal in the present-day story. Sharwanand plays the character across two decades, and the film's period recreation of Vizag was one of its talking points.
