Jeeva is an easy-going young man whose ordinary life is upended when he learns of his connection to Bhajarangi, a fearless guardian of a village terrorised long ago by practitioners of black magic. As the past is revealed, the battle Bhajarangi fought returns to claim the present, and Jeeva must take up the fight himself. Shiva Rajkumar plays the lead in a double role and famously built a muscular, six-pack physique for the part while in his fifties, which became one of the film's big talking points. Directed by choreographer-turned-filmmaker A. Harsha, with music by Arjun Janya, Bhajarangi was a major Kannada hit of 2013, mixing mythology-tinged fantasy, action and folk spectacle. It led to a sequel, Bhajarangi 2, in 2021.
