In the afterlife, Bhoothnath is the laughing stock of the ghost world because children are not afraid of him. Given a second chance to prove himself, he lands in a Mumbai slum, where a cheeky boy named Akhrot can see him and promptly turns him into a business opportunity. Their partnership leads somewhere unexpected: angered by the corruption and neglect around them, Bhoothnath decides to stand for election against the area's powerful local strongman, Bhau. The sequel to Bhoothnath (2008) turns the franchise from a haunted-house story into a cheerful political satire about voting and civic responsibility. It was directed by Nitesh Tiwari, who went on to make Dangal, and Parth Bhalerao's Akhrot is a scene-stealer opposite Amitabh Bachchan.
