Geetha lives with her elder sister and the sister's two young children. One day the children vanish, and a kidnapper's demands make it clear that going to the police could cost them their lives. Geetha takes matters into her own hands, following thin clues across the city with the help of a friend, while trying to protect her sister from the worst. Butterfly is a compact suspense thriller built around Anupama Parameswaran, who carries most of the film, with Bhumika Chawla as the sister. The story uses the kidnapping to touch on the safety of children and the dangers they face from those closest to home.
