Marudhamalai is a police constable with more courage than rank. Posted to a rural station where the inspector, Ekambaram, avoids every kind of trouble, he soon collides with a local strongman who terrorises villagers and has politicians in his pocket. Romance blooms with Nila, the daughter of a family caught up in the gangster's crimes, and the stage is set for a long battle of nerves and fists. The film is best remembered today for Vadivelu's comic track as the boastful but terrified Encounter Ekambaram, whose scenes with Arjun became some of the most replayed comedy clips in Tamil popular culture. Arjun, the "Action King", delivers his signature fight scenes.
