Kirumi (2015)

Kathir is unemployed, restless and tired of being treated as a failure by his wife and in-laws. Hanging around a local police station, he becomes friendly with the officers and starts passing on information about small-time criminals. The work gives him a sense of importance, but informing is a dangerous game: the police use him when it suits them, the people he informs on begin to suspect him, and a power struggle within the station puts him squarely in the middle. Kirumi ("germ") is a realistic, low-key thriller about how ordinary people are used up by the system. It was co-written by M. Manikandan, director of Kaaka Muttai, and Charlie gives a fine supporting turn as a seasoned constable. Critics praised its authentic portrayal of police stations and informers.
