Parvarish (1958)

Parvarish, meaning upbringing, is a late-1950s family drama built around the old question of nature against nurture. Two infants from very different backgrounds are raised side by side, and as grown men, played by Raj Kapoor and Mehmood, they become inseparable brothers, until the truth of their birth threatens their bond, their inheritance and Raj Kapoor's romance with the character played by Mala Sinha. The film blends sentiment and comedy, and gave Mehmood one of his early substantial roles alongside a major star. Dattaram's music is its biggest legacy, including Mukesh's Aansoo Bhari Hain Ye Jeevan Ki Raahen and the comic duet Mama O Mama.
