Gauri: The Unborn (2007)

Gauri: The Unborn is a 2007 Hindi social drama about the practice of female foeticide, telling its story through a couple, played by Atul Kulkarni and Bengali star Rituparna Sengupta, and an unborn daughter. It looks at how family and social pressure for a male heir push people towards terrible choices, and at the cost carried by women in particular. Atul Kulkarni, twice a National Award winner, brings his usual intensity. It is a serious, message-driven film rather than entertainment, of interest to viewers drawn to issue-based cinema.
