Bahadur Babu, who claims Gurkha blood from his grandfather, has always dreamed of wearing a police uniform, but he keeps failing the tests and ends up as a security guard in a big Chennai shopping mall. It is a dull job until a group of armed men seize the building and take the shoppers hostage, among them a foreign diplomat, which turns the siege into an international headache. With the police stuck outside, the clumsy, overconfident guard, helped by a stray dog, has to find his own way through the corridors to outwit the hostage-takers. Gurkha was built entirely around comedian Yogi Babu, giving him one of his first full-length leading roles after years as the hero's sidekick, and it plays as a broad, gag-driven spoof of the lone-hero siege film.
