A Journey of Samyak Buddha (2013)

A Journey of Samyak Buddha is a 2013 Hindi biographical film directed by Praveen Damle, telling the life of Gautama Buddha. It follows Prince Siddhartha of the Shakya clan from his birth and protected upbringing in the palace at Kapilavastu, through his marriage to Yashodhara and his encounters with old age, sickness and death, to his decision to leave home, his years of searching and his enlightenment, after which he begins to teach. The film is based on B. R. Ambedkar's book The Buddha and His Dhamma, and so gives weight to the Buddha's rational, social and ethical teachings rather than to miracles. Abhishek Urade plays Siddhartha. It is a sincere, modestly produced film aimed at viewers interested in the Buddha's life and message.
