The Gandharva Gaya offends Krishna, who vows to kill him before sunset. The terrified Gaya seeks shelter and, without telling the whole story, wins a promise of protection from Arjuna. Bound by his word, Arjuna stands between his dearest friend and the man Krishna has sworn to punish, and the two heroes prepare for war against each other. Woven in is the lighter tale of Arjuna's love for Krishna's sister Subhadra and his disguise as an ascetic to win her. Sri Krishnarjuna Yuddhamu brought together the two giants of Telugu cinema, N. T. Rama Rao as Krishna and A. Nageswara Rao as Arjuna, under K. V. Reddy, the director of Mayabazar. Pendyala Nageswara Rao's songs helped make it a lasting favourite among Telugu mythologicals.
