Roshan Kalra ran away from his father's disapproval in Chandni Chowk to become a chef and made it in New York, but he has been a distant father to Armaan, the son who lives in Kochi with his ex-wife Radha, a classical dancer. When his temper costs him his job, Roshan goes to Kerala and, with Radha's encouragement, turns an old double-decker bus into a food truck, taking Armaan with him on a road trip through India. Chef is an Indian remake of Jon Favreau's American film of the same name, reworked around Kerala and Delhi food and a gentler family story. Raja Krishna Menon had directed Airlift, and Malayalam actress Padmapriya made her Hindi debut opposite Saif Ali Khan.
