Thiru is a silent, hard young man who works as muscle for a local don in Chennai. Charu is a gentle woman who works for a social organisation, helping the poor. When their paths cross, Thiru is drawn to her and slowly begins to change, but his violent world and a misunderstanding about who he really is threaten to destroy what they have. Chithiram Pesuthadi was the debut of director Mysskin, who went on to become one of Tamil cinema's most distinctive film-makers, and it introduced Narain as a lead and Bhavana to Tamil audiences. The film was a sleeper hit, helped greatly by the gaana song Vaala Meenukkum, sung by Gana Ulaganathan, which became a craze across Tamil Nadu.
