The hero, played by Manchu Manoj, spends his days loafing around the village with his friends. The village's stern strongman, played by Jagapathi Babu, is so feared that nobody dares to go near his family. When the young man falls for the strongman's daughter, played by Rakul Preet Singh, he sets off a battle of wits and fists with her father that turns the whole village upside down. Current Theega is the Telugu remake of the Tamil village comedy Varuthapadatha Valibar Sangam (2013), reworked as a mass entertainer for Manchu Manoj, and produced by his brother Vishnu Manchu. Sunny Leone made her Telugu debut in the film in a special role as a teacher, which drew a lot of attention at release in 2014.
