An ancient idol of Lord Ganesha, worth a fortune, is stolen from a temple and ends up in Hyderabad, where everyone wants it. Surya is a pickpocket who, with his friends, pulls off small cons; Swathi is a young television reporter who has a habit of getting into trouble. Through a chain of accidents the idol keeps changing hands among them, a ruthless gangster and his men, and a crooked middleman, setting off a string of double-crosses. Swamy Ra Ra was the first film of writer-director Sudheer Varma and was praised for its stylish, neo-noir treatment, which was fresh for Telugu cinema at the time. Its success relaunched Nikhil Siddharth's career.
