Description

In 1953, as the zamindari system is being dismantled, a young man named Varun arrives at a landowner's estate in Manikpur claiming to be an archaeologist looking for an ancient temple. Pakhi, the zamindar's frail, bookish daughter who wants to be a writer, slowly falls in love with him, and he with her, but Varun's real purpose will break her heart. Their story resumes a year later in snow-bound Dalhousie. Lootera ("robber") is a slow, painterly romance inspired in part by O. Henry's story "The Last Leaf", widely regarded as one of the finest Hindi love stories of its decade. It is admired for Sonakshi Sinha's and Ranveer Singh's restrained performances, Mahendra Shetty's period images and Amit Trivedi's songs such as "Sawaar Loon".
