Sankoch (1976)

Lalita, an orphan brought up by her poor uncle, has grown up next door to Shekhar, the son of a wealthy and calculating neighbour, and the two share an unspoken bond. Their quiet understanding is tested when Shekhar's father sets his sights on the uncle's house, a charming newcomer shows interest in Lalita, and pride and hesitation, the "sankoch" of the title, keep both of them from saying what they feel. The film is a Hindi adaptation of Sarat Chandra Chattopadhyay's novella Parineeta, the story later filmed again in 2005, and stars singer-actress Sulakshana Pandit opposite Jeetendra.
