Mukunda runs a shop selling idols and religious goods but has no faith himself, and mocks the rituals that keep his business going. When an earthquake destroys his shop and the insurance company refuses to pay because the damage was an 'act of God', he decides to take God to court, naming the religious leaders and temple trusts as defendants. The case makes him notorious, and a mysterious, smiling man called Murari, who seems to know more than he should, becomes his unlikely ally. Mukunda Murari is the Kannada remake of the Hindi film OMG – Oh My God! (2012), which was itself based on the Gujarati play Kanji Virudh Kanji. It brought together two of Kannada cinema's biggest stars, Upendra as the sceptic and Sudeep as the stranger, in the roles played in Hindi by Paresh Rawal and Akshay Kumar.
