In 1990 the scientist Sethuraman finally perfects a watch that lets its wearer move through time, but his twin brother Athreya, a cold and violent man, wants it for himself and attacks the family. Twenty-six years later Mani, a cheerful young watch mechanic raised far from that night, stumbles on a mysterious box and the watch inside it, and starts using it to charm Sathya, the girl he likes. But Athreya is still alive and still looking for the watch. Suriya plays three roles, including a frightening turn as the villain in a wheelchair, and also produced the film. Vikram Kumar's science-fiction thriller was praised for its inventive use of time travel, and it won National Awards for Best Cinematography for Tirru and for Best Production Design. A. R. Rahman composed the songs.
