Doctor (2021)

Varun is an army doctor so rigid and unemotional that his fiancée Padmini calls off their engagement. Days later her young niece disappears on the way home from school, and Varun, unbothered by the rejection, quietly takes charge of the search. With the help of Padmini's eccentric family and a bumbling police officer, he follows the trail to a child-trafficking racket in Goa run by the suave Terry, and the methods he uses become increasingly outrageous. Nelson Dilipkumar's second film is a dark comedy that plays a grim subject with a straight face, and it made a breakout star of Redin Kingsley. Delayed by the pandemic, it opened in cinemas in October 2021 and became one of the biggest Tamil hits of that year, helped by Anirudh's songs such as Chellamma.
