Baby (2015)

Ajay Singh Rajput belongs to a secret, deniable intelligence team set up after a major terror attack. When a dangerous operative escapes from custody and a firebrand cleric across the border sets a new plan in motion, Ajay and his small group, led by the gruff Feroz Ali Khan, must track the plotters through several countries, working without official cover and knowing that the government will disown them if they fail. Neeraj Pandey keeps the tone grounded: there are no songs in the main narrative, the operations feel procedural and the tension builds steadily towards a long final mission. Taapsee Pannu's short but striking role as agent Shabana proved so popular that it led to a spin-off, Naam Shabana, two years later. The film was shot partly abroad, including in the Gulf and Turkey.
