Veerapandi is the respected elder of his Sivaganga village, and his son Selvam is fiercely devoted to him. When Rajalingam, a politician who rose with Veerapandi's backing, begins to turn power against the family that helped him, Selvam is drawn into a widening clash of muscle and politics, while a romance with Radhika runs alongside. Hari, known for fast-cut rural action films like Saamy and Singam, keeps the pace high and the emotions loud, and the father-son bond between Rajkiran and Dhanush is the heart of the film. Venghai was a rare full-on mass-action role for Dhanush in this period, and Devi Sri Prasad's songs and Prakash Raj's oily villainy add to the formula.
