Daal Mein Kaala (1964)

Daal Mein Kaala is a black-and-white Hindi comedy from 1964, directed by Satyen Bose and starring Kishore Kumar opposite Nimmi. The title is the everyday Hindi idiom for something being fishy, a fitting banner for a Kishore Kumar vehicle from the years when he was one of Hindi cinema's busiest comic leads, mixing clowning with his own playback singing. Bose had already worked with him on the hit Chalti Ka Naam Gaadi (1958), and this film belongs to the same light, song-filled tradition. Worth a look for fans of Kishore Kumar's 1960s screen comedy and of Nimmi in one of her later roles.
