Dak Ghar (1965)

Amal is a young orphan living with his uncle, and he is so ill that the village doctor forbids him to step outside. Sitting at his window, he befriends the people passing by: the curd-seller, the watchman, a little flower girl, and he becomes fascinated by the new post office across the way, convinced that one day the king will send him a letter. Based on Rabindranath Tagore's celebrated play Dak Ghar (The Post Office), the film stars the child actor Sachin, later the actor-director Sachin Pilgaonkar, as Amal, with Balraj Sahni. It is a gentle, poetic film about imagination and longing, suitable for all ages.
