Long ago, a powerful demon was defeated, and now he returns, seeking a woman born under a particular star so that he can become all-powerful. That woman is Maheshwari, and the man who loves her is Mallikarjuna, a cheerful Hyderabad youth who has no idea that his own birth was blessed by Lord Shiva. As the demon's forces close in and strange events pile up, Mallikarjuna learns who he really is and prepares for a battle that the gods themselves are watching. Damarukam, named after the small drum carried by Shiva, was one of the most expensive Telugu films of its time and leaned heavily on large-scale visual effects for its climax. Prakash Raj plays Shiva in a warm, humane avatar, and Devi Sri Prasad composed the soundtrack.
