Datta (1989)

Daata ('the giver') is a 1989 Hindi film directed by Sultan Ahmed, the maker of Heera and Ganga Ki Saugandh, starring Mithun Chakraborty with Padmini Kolhapure and Shammi Kapoor. It is a family drama with action, in the emotional style of the late eighties, built around duty, sacrifice and family bonds. The film's lasting legacy is the Kalyanji–Anandji song 'Babul Ka Yeh Ghar Behna', sung by Kishore Kumar and Alka Yagnik, which is still played at weddings across north India when a bride leaves her parents' home.
