David weaves together three separate stories. In 1975 London, David is a loyal enforcer for a gangster and is torn between duty and love. In 1999 Mumbai, David is a young musician, the son of a Christian preacher, whose family is caught up in a wave of communal hostility. In 2010 Goa, David is a fisherman who falls hopelessly for a woman about to marry his friend. Each David must make a choice that will define him. Bejoy Nambiar shot the film simultaneously in Hindi and Tamil, with Vikram playing the Goa David in both versions. It is a stylish, music-driven film, with a soundtrack assembled from many composers and a distinctive look for each of its three segments.
