Aval Sumangalithan (1985)

Aval Sumangalithan is a Tamil family drama written and directed by Visu, the filmmaker renowned in the 1980s for talky, emotionally charged stories set in middle-class households. Karthik and Ilavarasi play the young couple at its heart, with Visu himself in a typically wise and outspoken role. The story deals with marriage, family pressures and a woman's honour, told with Visu's mix of sharp dialogue, humour and sentiment.
