Guido, a married man from Rome, hears that his father is gravely ill and must travel to his family home in Tuscany. He brings with him Anita, a free-spirited American he has been seeing, telling himself it will be a pleasant escape. The road trip turns into a comedy of embarrassment and evasion as Guido keeps lying to his family, his wife and Anita, while Anita slowly sees him more clearly. Directed by Mario Monicelli, one of the masters of Italian comedy, the film was released in Italy as Viaggio con Anita and in English-speaking markets as Lovers and Liars. It pairs Hollywood star Goldie Hawn with Giancarlo Giannini, and the score is by Ennio Morricone. This page is for the English-language version.
