Devaki (2019)

Devaki is a Kannada-speaking single mother living in Kolkata with her teenage daughter. When the girl vanishes one day, Devaki is thrown into a frantic hunt through a vast city whose language and back streets she barely knows, while a police officer, played by Kishore, tries to help her make sense of the clues. The film is a mother-and-child thriller that leans on Priyanka Upendra's performance and on its unusual setting: much of it was shot on location in Kolkata, which gives it a different look from most Kannada films. Priyanka's real-life daughter Aishwarya Upendra made her screen debut as the missing girl. Director Lohith H. had earlier worked with Priyanka on the horror film Mummy (2016), and here he turns to a grounded missing-person story touching on child trafficking.
