When a young couple fall into the sights of a wicked sorcerer who wants to use dark powers for his own ends, they find a protector in Devi, the serpent goddess, who comes to earth in human form. As the sorcerer's attacks grow more terrifying, Devi uses her divine powers to defend the innocent, leading to a spectacular battle between good and evil. Devi was a landmark devotional fantasy in Telugu, a huge box-office hit known for its pioneering computer graphics at a time when such effects were rare in Indian cinema. Director Kodi Ramakrishna went on to specialise in effects-driven mythological fantasies. The film also marked the debut of composer Devi Sri Prasad, who became one of the most successful music directors in South India. Prema's performance as the goddess made her a household name with family audiences.
