Anjali loves Dev, a passionate young man from a poor family, but her father will not hear of the match and marries her to Ram, a wealthy, gentle businessman. Heartbroken, Anjali struggles at first, but Ram's patience and decency slowly win her respect and then her love, even as his own family schemes against them. Then Dev comes back, now rich and powerful, and convinced that Anjali still belongs to him. Dharmesh Darshan's romantic drama spent years in production before reaching cinemas in 2000, when it became one of the big hits of the year. Nadeem-Shravan's soundtrack, with "Dil Ne Yeh Kaha Hai Dil Se", "Tum Dil Ki Dhadkan Mein" and "Na Na Karte Pyar", was everywhere, and Suniel Shetty won the Filmfare award for Best Villain.
