Dholak (1951)

Dholak is a 1951 Hindi film directed by Roop K. Shorey, who made a series of light, song-filled entertainers with actress Meena Shorey in this period. Ajit, years before he became famous as a suave screen villain, plays the hero. The music is by Shyam Sundar, and as the title, named after the folk drum, suggests, songs are at the heart of the film. It is a black-and-white entertainer of the early post-Independence years.
