Seenu is a middle-class college student who falls for his classmate Nandini. Her father, Chalapathi, is a rich man with a criminal streak and a hold over the police and the city, and he has no intention of letting his daughter marry a nobody. What begins as a college romance becomes a battle of nerves as Chalapathi uses money, threats and violence, and Seenu answers with stubbornness and nerve. Dil was V. V. Vinayak's second film after Aadi and a big hit that made Nithiin a star. It was also the first production of the distributor Venkata Ramana Reddy, who became so identified with it that he has been known ever since as Dil Raju, one of the most successful producers in Telugu cinema. R. P. Patnaik's songs were very popular.
