Dupatta (1952)

Dupatta is an early Pakistani musical romance starring the singer-actress Noor Jehan, who had moved to Pakistan after Partition and was already a legend from her films in Bombay. She plays a young woman whose love story is threatened by family and circumstance, and the drama is carried as much by her songs as by the plot. Feroz Nizami's soundtrack is the film's great treasure, above all Chandni Raatein, which remains one of Noor Jehan's best-loved songs. Dupatta was a major success in both Pakistan and India and helped establish the young Lahore film industry.
