Siva comes to Chennai to study and stays with his sister. Through a chance meeting on a bus he falls for Priya, but her elder brother Pasupathy is a dreaded local don who keeps her guarded and has no intention of letting a nobody near her. The romance turns into a cat-and-mouse fight in which Siva must keep moving, outwit Pasupathy's men and protect the woman he loves. Run was N. Linguswamy's second film and a big hit, marking Madhavan's turn from romantic hero to action lead, with Atul Kulkarni as an intense villain and Meera Jasmine in her Tamil debut. Vidyasagar's songs, including "Kadhal Pisase", were huge, and the film was remade in Hindi under the same title in 2004.
