Description

Eight guests and two servants arrive at a house on an island off the English coast, summoned by an absent host none of them knows. After dinner, a recorded voice accuses each of them of having caused a death and escaped justice. Then the first guest dies, and the figurines on the dining table begin to disappear, one for each victim, following a children's rhyme. With the boat gone and no one else on the island, the killer must be one of them. This was the first film of Agatha Christie's best-selling mystery, directed by the French master René Clair in Hollywood. It follows Christie's own stage version rather than the novel, and blends suspense with dry black comedy from a superb cast of character actors.
