In the Bombay of the mid-1990s, Madhu Mangal Rane earns his living as a "wedding detective": families hire him to check out prospective grooms, and he takes pride in exposing every flaw. When he wrecks the marriage plans of Suraj Singh Dhillon, a wealthy, good-natured bachelor from a dairy family, Suraj decides to strike back, and his weapon is Madhu's own unmarried sister, Tulsi. What follows is a battle of schemes, disguises and family misunderstandings between two stubborn men. Manoj Bajpayee goes broad in a role full of quick changes of costume, opposite Diljit Dosanjh's easygoing charm. Released for Diwali in November 2020, it was one of the first new Hindi films to open in cinemas after the pandemic closures.
