Jaggu is an ordinary, good-hearted man who lives among the working poor of Bombay, where land sharks and gangsters rule the streets. He finds a protector of sorts in Jahangir Khan, a don with a code of his own, but the violence of the city's crime bosses keeps pressing in on Jaggu and on the woman he loves, until he is forced to act. Directed by Shashilal K. Nair, Angaar is a gritty early-1990s underworld drama that anticipated the harder-edged gangster films of that decade. Nana Patekar's menacing turn won him the Filmfare award for Best Villain, and Kader Khan, who also played Jahangir Khan, won the Filmfare award for Best Dialogue.
