Anuradha, a middle-class young woman, marries Vivek, the son of a powerful politician. The marriage soon sours as Vivek's drinking, womanising and violence surface, and when he lands in jail, the family needs someone to carry its name in an election. Anuradha is drafted in as a figurehead, and finds she has a mind for politics. With the help of the shrewd Yashwant Varde she climbs, but every step demands compromises she never imagined. Satta is part of Madhur Bhandarkar's run of realistic films about Mumbai's institutions, following Chandni Bar, and Raveena Tandon's performance is among her strongest. Atul Kulkarni brings quiet menace and ambiguity to Varde.
