Vijay Kapoor is a self-made industrialist who has built his business on discipline and devotion to his family. His son Ajay returns from studying abroad with ideas of his own about how the company and its workers should be treated, and when father and son clash over a matter of principle, Ajay walks out. While the family splits, a scheming son-in-law sees his chance to take over the business, and the Kapoors must find their way back to each other. Ek Rishtaa: The Bond of Love was one of the big family dramas of 2001, pairing Amitabh Bachchan and Akshay Kumar as father and son, with Rakhee as the mother. Nadeem-Shravan's soundtrack, with its family songs, was popular.
