Encounter Dayanayak is a Kannada crime drama inspired by the life of Daya Nayak, the Mumbai police officer from coastal Karnataka who became famous, and controversial, as an encounter specialist in the war against the city's underworld in the 1990s. Sachin Khedekar plays the title role, with Mahesh Manjrekar in the cast. The film traces the officer's rise from humble beginnings to the front line of police operations against gangsters, and the questions that followed him. The same real-life figure also inspired the Hindi film Ab Tak Chhappan (2004).
