Chand (1944)

Chand is a 1944 Hindi romantic drama directed by D. D. Kashyap, starring Prem Adib, one of the popular leading men of the 1940s best remembered as Rama in Ram Rajya, opposite Begum Para, an actress known for her glamorous, modern screen image. Shashikala, who later became one of Hindi cinema's best-known character actresses, appears in an early role. Like many films of its era it tells its story of love and family obstacles largely through songs, and it is of interest today as a glimpse of 1940s studio filmmaking and of these stars at the start of their careers.
