A minister dies, and then others connected to him follow, in a sequence the press calls the "basket killings". The deaths look unconnected on the surface, but the investigators sense a single mind behind them. The CBI calls in Sethurama Iyer, the calm, hands-behind-the-back officer who reads people as carefully as evidence, and his team begins rebuilding each death step by step. This is the fifth film in the series that began with Oru CBI Diary Kurippu in 1988, with the same trio of Mammootty, writer S. N. Swamy and director K. Madhu, more than three decades later. Fans were especially moved by the return of Jagathy Sreekumar as Vikram, his first screen appearance after a serious road accident in 2012. The series' famous theme returns, reworked by Jakes Bejoy.
