Veera Bharathi has lived in a forest in the hills for decades, planting trees and protecting the herds of elephants that move through it, so that local people call him the forest man. When a powerful minister and a corporation begin building a township with a massive wall across the elephants' age-old corridor, he fights them through protest, courts and finally with his own body, while the herd's path to water is blocked. Kaadan ("forest dweller") is the Tamil version of a trilingual film by Prabhu Solomon, made alongside the Hindi Haathi Mere Saathi and the Telugu Aranya, with Vishnu Vishal playing a mahout in the Tamil and Telugu versions. Rana Daggubati transformed himself physically for the role, which was inspired by real-life forest guardians such as Jadav Payeng. Much of it was filmed with real elephants, partly in Thailand.
